Cesare Brandi (Siena April 8, 1906 - Vigna, January 19, 1988) was a historian and art critic, essayist and a specialist in the theory of Italian restoration. Through studies on the aesthetics and philosophy of art has developed a definition of "Restoration" based on the concept of a work of art, as a product of human spirituality, which is recognized by the individual conscience reality and phenomenological discipline to a statute providing thanks to the theoretical and scientific Experiments carried out under the Central Institute for Restoration (ICR) which he founded in 1938 together with Giulio Carlo Argan. Cesare Brandi
considered the act of recognition and the restoration of 'protection, remozione hazards, insurance conditions that are conducive "to the end of the transmission of historical and artistic treasures for future generations. The restoration, he said, as' an act in history should not be assumed to be reversible neither the time nor the abolition of history ", will be resolved with recognizable additions that should not foreclose any future action and above all should respect the work of material fact 'art exhibition vehicle as an aspect of the image and as a structure, the patina, "traces of time", and additions are settled on the work of the historical data whose removal would lead to the denial of a "transition center and the falsification of data."

Today's reality is to far away from the thought that the professor before the restoration, "scientific and critical awareness of the moment in which the intervention occurs," alleged the "maintenance" of the cultural heritage methodologically similar to the restoration work itself, but with the purpose of prevention ".
We hope that the future holds greater interest and care for the work of our predecessors.
